The only issue I have with this is that it’s really lovely when it’s on and super listenable but it doesn’t really stay with me between listens. It’s almost a bit too consistent for its own good, individual songs/melodies don’t stick out a ton.

opposite for me. what keeps drawing me back is a thought like "andromeda slide guitar" or "bridge of mirror forever" or "chorus of something to believe" or "movies climax"... I'm always craving something.
this ship is durable af. don't see the acclaim fading

yeah agreed this feels like it will stand the test of time
it's built on a rock solid foundation, not flimsy production tricks or anything

First half of the album is a 4.5 or 5, but the back half is a bit more forgettable.

Listening to this after a break...first song is 100% a ‘Pure Comedy’ FJM song, a very very good one though. Possibly better than any song on ‘Pure Comedy’ and still the best tune here for me.
Tillman could cover it straight no probs, wouldn’t have to alter a vocal melody, would fit him like a glove.
He could do tracks 2 and maybe 3 and 4 too with a few minor vocal melody alterations. Very FJM the first half of this.

I mean I’m aware FJM is one in a very long line of ‘70s cribbing artists but he just happens to be the most recent to this release and the comparison is just so obvious thanks to that. Very similar approach to the delivery style of the vocals in the verses in particular.

Andromeda's a big wide open galaxy
Nothing in it for me
Except a heart that's lazy...

damn apparently she started out playing bass in Jackie-O Motherfucker
i guess that explains why her early stuff sounds absolutely nothing like this

This shits on father John misty

I do hear the stylistic similarities to Father John Misty, though I think Natalie's songwriting on this album are superior. She played shows with him too, so there's a clear connection.
I had this convo with peeps on rym, and of course the PC police came and accused everyone of being sexist to even compare her music to a John's. Apparently there's no room in PC utopia for balanced opinions like "yeah, he probably influenced her some, but I like her songs better."

I don’t hear any FJM influence on her music, it’s more apt to say they’re drawing from a similar era.
