I've been checking out new music like crazy this year - usually multiple albums a week. I keep returning to this Stella Donnelly album. It's like a comfort album that happens to have some heavy lyrics. The album will likely make my top 5 of the year along with (also most likely) Thom Yorke's ANIMA, Laura Stevenson's The Big Freeze, Lady Lamb's Even in the Tremor, and Andrew Bird's My Finest Work Yet. I feel like my favorites this year are albums that are simply very listen-able. I like them from first song to last even if they aren't always the new Pitchfork-approved sound in innovation and style. Stella Donnelly is a good example of an album I'm really liking now and can see myself liking for years to come. To anyone else that also likes the album, I recommend listening to some of Stella's full concerts on YouTube. She's both precious and surprisingly funny. For example, after starting a song out of tune, she stops and says something along the lines of, "I'm going to do something very, very special for all of you tonight. Are you ready? I'm going to actually play this song in tune." Then she happily restarts the song. I just love her. Lastly, in response to someone's previous comment that the album is great except it should end with the title track... I see why you would say that. The title track is really good, and the three songs that follow are more low-key. Ending with the title track would give the album a strong close. However, I personally like all three of the songs after the title track. "U Owe Me" sounds like a pretty French song that happens to be about an unpleasant topic. I like "Watching Telly." Just a good song. "Face It" sounds like a soft lullaby. Not a big, bold way to end the album, yet it's lovely sounding, and Stella's vocals on it are nice.

Review is downright arrogant and stupid. The perfect little nazi who has no brains but copy paste the propaganda to feel confident, powerful and superior and this without adding any thought to it because why thinking when you can look right and progressive without any effort ?
When you start with this: "sit. paw. lie down. roll over. don't touch me without consent. GOOD BOY"
AKA "Men are dogs." you forbid yourself from making any comment on sexism or how men behave towards women or anything, you've announced yourself as exactly what you denounce.
Fire this staff immediatly.

did you just call someone a nazi, but then demand for them to be fired because of their words?

liked the instrumentals and her singing, the message, though her accent and some lyrics are a bit "we get it, you're Australian", but it's okay cause she's from Perth.

honestly it's a refreshing change sometimes to hear someone sing without dialing down their accent

This is quite good, nice diversity and strong lyrics. Wish I had found it earlier in the year.
