In Gardens’ Muteness - Julia singing identifiably like Julia...a very nice voice! Still - this song would have been an incidental filler track on ‘Loud City’. It’s nice though - had it on a 3/5 and it keeps that. Edit it down to 3:30 and it might have made a 3.5, ending sees her overstretch herself into near-embarrassing territory

I Would Rather See - hmmm, possibly the highlight of the album? Had this on a 3.5 and that seems right - she plays to her strengths on this one and reaps the rewards. Not a million miles away from Low. The most restrained song here; the most powerful song here?

Les Jeux to You - I find this one too plinky plonky little girl lost, a bit cringe in a ‘poor woman’s Kate Bush’ way. Well enough made but I don’t like it. Keeps a 2.5/5 - despite subliminally mimicking the opening bars of the start of ‘Star Wars’ in the outro. Dirty tactics Julia, you get a final warning.

Words I Heard - yeah, another contender for best of the album. 10 songs similar to this one and surely that’d have been preferable for all concerned, casting chin stroking aside? I know we want to really earn that neo classical tag but at what cost? How many lives? A third 3.5 - we’re cookin on gas 🔥

I haven't heard this yet but I'm pretty sure it's not a 2.

I Shall Love 1 - starts with the sound of a marching band inseminating a herd of cows which is disconcerting. Settles down after the ropey extended intro (again again) and yeah, then it’s an ok effort. Nothing amazing, certainly a ‘non song’, just a soundscape here but it’s diverting enough. Had this on a 3 out of 5....it....keeps a 3 out of 5 rating. The final 90 seconds are easily the best part of this one.

Why Sad Song - why indeed we may ask? This is all a bit ‘after the Lord mayor’s show’...we get a dust cart of a comedown. Had this on a 2.5 - seems correct. Arcade asked Enya? It’s all got a bit Enya. Very new age and ‘quick - summon the whales’ 🐋

Honestly, it’s a fitting anti climax to a sustained non climax.

Summary of ‘tracks 6-15’ listen - a very boring experience, I now give up with this album, it’s not abjectly awful but it doesn’t warrant further exploration.

Will stick to ‘LCS’ for a fix of Julia’s lovely voice and ear for atmosphere. Her insticts deserted her here.

I haven't really given this a proper listen. First 5 songs weighed me down to the bottom of the ocean

The first 5 songs are a collective 0.5/5 for me yeah - worse than the sum of their parts deal

Especially Every Day Is an Emergency. Different strokes and all, but it is genuinely unfathomable to me that anyone could enjoy this. Most pretentious grating nonsense I've heard all year. Who knows, maybe this album contains some real polished gems; there's a good chance I'll never know.

yeah I think we've established that Emergency is pretty genuinely awful

but outside of that, for me at least, it ranges from acquired taste to breathtaking

I think another 10-20 posts bashing it will be sufficient.

Fair enough Sowing, there's a hell of a lot of worse music out there and some of this is pretty good in ways similar to 'LCS'

yeah and like I said, I get why a portion of her fanbase rejects this

it's definitely too experimental for its own good at times, at the sacrifice of the general listenability of the music

it's just a question of which way your taste leans I suppose

It’s definitely not easy listening but I start to like the first half of “everyday is an emergency” once it settles into the low horn blaring one note and the higher pitched one playing off that

Doof really put the effort into lambasting this, credit where credit is due.
