I want to share my perspective on eminem. I used to like him A LOT, back in the day. Then he released the video of ass like that, and that was the point where I pretty much started to lose interest in him.

Then I started to listen to the beastie boys, and that was the end of eminem as a music interest for me.

No like public backlash or people giving him his garbage music 1s/ people boycotting his merchandise.

I mean offensive words aside the lyrics on this thing are embarrassingly bad and his lack of self awareness is both funny and sad.

The last 5 tracks all have serious problems but I quite like the first 8, despite their warts. I'm not sure if this is better than MMLP2, but I consider those two to be his "best" since his early days. After The Eminem Show, every Eminem record has consisted of me listening a few times and being repulsed, but MMLP2 and Kamikaze are actually listenable and enjoyable to some degree. This is so close to actually being "good", but is held back by some questionable mixing and vocal delivery choices. The vocals aren't ED'd with the beats properly causing them to sit poorly in the mix and there is often a strange dissonance between the actual vocal delivery and the beats beneath them. Still, there is actually something to appreciate here for someone who really only enjoys his first two records.

I genuinely thought that Sputnik as a whole was beyond 'if you listen to x, it says y about you as a person'.



If that's what you wanna be then cool, but it seems odd that being so childish is coming as a direct response to... Someone being childish. I'm not defending Eminem's language or even claiming to be particularly comfortable with it, but enjoying the album for what it is says nothing about me, same as to anyone else who enjoyed it.
