Picked this up today after it seems to be getting hype everywhere, the only thing i have by these guys is unhallowed so didn't have much idea what it would be like after all these years but it sounds pretty good.

The bass playing should be highlighted more with this band imo. Like short spots where the bass has a fill, or it's just drum and bass playing together etc.

True, that's why it got me thinking

love the part in the middle of the title track where all the other instruments cut out and the bass repeats that riff.

that being said, it annoys me when bands use techniques like that or have the bass do the intro for a second or whatever, but then dont do anything else with the bass. as if thats making good use of it. its not a bad songwriting tool, but if thats all you use it for, its like "whoa you can hear the bass for a second, theyre making full use of their instruments!" no. turn the fucking bass up in the mix, and do more than just follow the rhythm guitar for the entire duration of the album. get creative you lazy bastards.
and for TBDM, thats pretty much what the bass was like before this album. the bass does a little more this time around. the bass in The Lonely Deceased is HNNNNGGGGHHH.

Haha yeah I know what you mean. Tech death does that little trick all the time. Some 1 bar bass sweep and boom the bass is never heard from again lol

I always enjoy what these guys do but its hard to care about another release that basically sounds like all of their other stuff. The performances are always great, especially the riffs/melodies, but I do wish they'd experiment a bit more. I also find this type of production gives me ear fatigue these days - just not enough dynamics.

Eh there are some bands that I don't need to experiment, this being one of them. If they ever decide to it would be interesting, though.

They stick to what they're good at, and that's totally okay in my books. This might be my favorite album of theirs and I've jammed all of them a lot since Unhallowed. Catacomb Hecatomb and The Lonely Deceased on repeat for days.

I think every band needs to experiment eventually. These guys have gotten away with not really doing that yet, but i think its at that point for me where if the next album doesnt offer anything different, ill lose interest. I have 5 albums from them with basically the same sound. They almost certainly wont experiment though, they want to retain their fanbase.

I haven't jammed these guys since sophomore/junior year of high school. I'm kinda hyped to check this out now

Alright something just clicked. I'm fucking loving these guys now. This is wonderful, and my next favorite so far is Ritual.
