Boney - you'll probably think this is alright, I'd guess it won't reach a Fleet Foxes/War on Drugs/National level but I could see a 2.5-4 rating

I'll revisit this and I could see it maybe climbing to a 3. It won't go below a 2.5

Glad that horrible 2.5 rating didn't really affect on the average score.

It'll drop to a 3.9 soon enough

This being the highest rated album of the year would be the tragedy, considering it's been such a good 'un

I highly disagree with you, Mr. Plainview.

I mean if it earns the highest average it wouldn't really be a tragedy because it's what everyone liked the best. I don't know if I see it staying this high but it's certainly in the AOTY conversation and I'd venture it's worth a shot even from those who maybe don't normally care about indie-rock.

I was joking, I have no problem this doing well for itself, it's far from offensive in any regard. Just think for me War on Drugs, National, Fleet Foxes and maybe even Grizzly Bear will put this in the shade. The hype will make me return to this a few times though, maybe it'll grow on me, Half Moon Run grew on me a bit (think I even have the debut 4'd and that would have started on a 3 rating)

Example - the two new National songs I prefer tenfold to any song on this.

Been listening to this nonstop since it leaked a couple of days ago, and it's flow is probably my favorite thing about it, so smooth and seamless.

I do have high hopes for The National's new record, Mr. Plainview. You should give this one another shot. The song that finally sold it for me is The Grocery.

I'm convinced there are two or three worthwhile songs here yes, I'll listen out for that one

That's cool idrc, although the new GB tracks seemed boring and TWOD could go either way (neither single was better than anything from the last album). The National would be the big challenger IMO, but FF is my AOTY right now with this and Lorde close behind.

Circa 2010 or so, "I've Got Friends" is playing on a shitty YouTube rip through my shitty laptop speakers in my room. These are the pre-Spotify days when YouTube is regarded as a kind of acceptable way to find new music

Spotify launched in 2008 though...

@boney I can never be sure with you so I'd say give it the old college try and see what happens. If you liked MO in the past especially around the simple math era then you'll love this.

Fleet Foxes is top 4 for me now. Big climber.

Fleet Foxes, Flotation Toy Warning, Cigarettes After Sex, Mark Eitzel are my top 4. All guaranteed top 10 placing I'd think.

Mount Eerie is drifting a bit now, that should stay top 10.

The National will be top 10 barring some sort of cataclysm.
