lord forgive me for wanting more relatable rap and pop music as a gay man
|
| |
What would make it gayer? What quality is 'gay'?

eh, i don't know...
i can relate to gay-oriented music as a heterosexual man, don't see why it can't be the other way round.
I mean, i don't see it as a big issue myself, but i have a certain way of engaging emotionally to music that's probably not yours, zachyboi

Dude has a coming out album called flower boy and apparently the gay delegation needs time to convene on the appropriate quantity of gay for an album

it's not that i don't relate to music made by straight people, (i obviously do like almost all of my fives are heteros) it's just that there is a very limited spectrum of gay musicians making gay music for gay people. so there's not a lot of material made explicitly for us and it stings when questionably gay artists don't do much to offer any perspective on an experience that is wildly insular and very different from that of straight people's
also @asleep i can't isolate in a single comment what GAY is as a formal quality but it's very real, like even outside of camp culture or specific lgbt vernacular there's the simple characteristic of, you know, describing the experience of love/affection/lust between two men. and there's.... not a ton of that here

Sounds like an elusive and subjective thing. If you're not feeling that from this then I aint gonna question it

i would agree with that more but how am i supposed to solidify any one of his many personas as him and not just another personal expression or theatrical element. like he's talked about rape and murder and he hasn't raped or killed anyone i imagine so like how do you choose what to take seriously and what to chalk up as impressionistic?
|
| |
you take seriously what you think needs to be taken seriously, and you chalk up as impressionistic what you think needs to be chalked up as impressionistic. idk, I feel like the guy usually makes a clear distinction between the two, being over the top and lavish when its theatrical and things being a bit more low key when he's being himself. Though I'm new to the guys work, so what do I know
