I would be devastated if I thought I was going to see Alcest live and they didn't show haha. They are incredible live.

Idk why this is so underrated. Such a massive improvement in every way after the stumble that was DS.

It’s not bad it’s just a much lesser WS to me. Which ones have you heard?

distant satellites is a lot better than this

Distant Satellites is pretty good but the band didn't do anything new on it until the last couple songs. It follows the same formula they had done for most of their career, and it's probably my least favorite (though I can't really remember the first two). This really impresses at times, like the Lee Daniels led tracks and the instrumentals.

Nice man everything from A4-WS is brilliant, with Judgement and WHBWH being 5s for me, and this is exceptional as well you’ll love them.

Judgement and WHBWH are their best, but all their albums are worth jamming. One of the most consistent bands out there, like Paradise Lost and Katatonia.

yeah but at least it all worked. here the album completely drops off after springfield and never picks back up again. the only good song after that is 'close your eyes'. the only reason my rating is a positive one is because of how good the first half is.

Ghosts is excellent too but other than that yea those are the weakest on here, along with 32.63N 117.14W / Leaving it Behind, hence why it's no higher than an 8/10. None are bad tho

i don't know, ghosts spreads one motif a bit too thin for me. can't let go and wildfires are really subpar for anathema tracks.
|

I actually love Can't Let Go, can't understand the hate for that one
|

Leaving It Behind is a really unfortunate choice of pseudo-opener tho

i really like leaving it behind. i guess it's a taste thing.

Can't Let Go was good for one listen, but it's a shallow and slightly obnoxious song.
It's hard to describe why, it just feels icky to me.
Metaphors, ok. It's like listening to a nostalgic alcoholic.
Imo this is not ok for Anathema. They need to be pure and cosmic.

yeah that's kind of how i feel about can't let go. after such songs like endless ways and the title track (easily the best track here) that hit so hard, can't let go just doesn't have any emotional power whatsoever in my eyes.

This album sounds like sketches that haven't really had enough time spent on them

If Endless Ways is a sketch of a song Omair I am the Virgin Mary.

Yeah. Danny's The Exorcist is also up there, although the album as a whole didn't do much for me, unfortunately.
