I think this is one of the easiest DsO to listen to, but perhaps it's due to the length

Yea same, very accessible once you catch up to the chaos. The length definitely helps.
|
| |
lol I wouldn't call it very accessible but maybe in the context of their discography
|
| |
think this is close to their least accessible material but i guess that's subjective

Paracletus was where I started, a lot easier to digest than this one, rules tho

I think a lot of the "chaos" comes from the pacing of the drums. Even with all the dissonance, repeated listens will ingrain a lot of "melodies"/riffs and repeated patterns (either guitars or basslines) and you'll discover plenty of small details hidden in between

I prefer how condensed this is to be honest, all of the "chaotic" parts became a bit much on paracletus and I ended up typically skipping to the cooler parts. This one is short enough that it makes more sense just listening to the whole track for me.

I like them but they get samey after a while for me. I mean the fast blast beat parts with the random cadence vocals just doing there thing for minutes straight gets a little grating.
Either way this rules, last 3 or so minutes of the first track are my favorite, those riffs get so nasty.

| |
yea sick album
|

Will have to spin this again in a few days, the first one is doing nothing for me
|

Just cannot get into this genre man. Good shit though.

As much as I like Deathspell, I will say that it's kinda hard to tell what's going on during their blast beat sections sometimes. That's why I'm glad they also have a lot of sections without blasts where they really shine
