Agreed, this is 3rd for me. 4th when I'm in a StSt mood (super underrated that one). But this is probably the best album they could have written at the moment, definitely their most ambitious and it seems the live shows will be too. Eager to see what the future brings for this band

WtF is definitely their best imo, but an argument could be made for CoE too.

cant get on board with Waken The Fallen....album has too much metalcore to it which is what I don't care for.....songwriting is nowhere near as good as it his here, or even as good as everything that came after it, HTTK included.....these guys have matured and have simply gotten better over time.....with all that, this, Nightmare, and City of Evil are my top 3 from them with the self titled not far behind

In a nutshell exactly how I feel about Avenged Sevenfold, right on. I can't help, but laugh when I hear the vocals on Waking The Fallen. They've matured so much more as a band; to much better results. Their influences are clearer now, but I don't feel the need to knock them as a band anymore. I'm biased because I can't stand metalcore, but to me it was nothing more than a fad for these guys.

I enjoy some of Waking The Fallen, but to me it sounds like kids fucking around compared to what they would achieve later.

I agree, but I really like some of the musicianship on there. I Won't See You Tonight (Pt 1), Chapter Four, Clairvoyant Disease are all killer tracks. It's probably equal with Nightmare for me.

Same here man, I enjoyed the musicianship on Waking The Fallen. Instrumentally speaking.. It has some very awesome moments, but it felt bludgeoned by bad songwriting. They would have these great moments of melody and singing than it would be ruined by this abrasive screechy sounding bull shit; Why ruin a song? I couldn't get into it,but I guess it just wasn't for me man lol

i find about half of the material on their self titled is as good as anything they've ever put out.....afterlife, gunslinger, lost, heaven, and dear god are all excellent songs
