If I didn't care, like at all, for the last two should I even check this out? I'm sure its not total garbage or anything, but I am not convinced it will do anything for me.

I do feel like it probably deserves a shot. I listened to each of the last two with a good ol' once-through, so why not?

Interested in seeing what you think dbizzles. I had hardly heard any Opeth at all and went in with an open mind myself. Album starts off pretty strong.

I'll try to stream it tonight, because if I don't do it ASAP, Kodama will be taking up all of my time.

Tedious, dramatic (without any valid reason to be so) and derivative release that sounds like a deflated and unnecessarily maudlin prog rock band from the 70's. I imagine Mikael Akerfeldt and Stephen Wilson are in an attic somewhere right now drinking craft beer and reminiscing about the good ol' days of music and Mikael is calling the fans closed-minded as Stephen cradles him intimately to console him.
