I genuinely enjoy the chorus to Wake Up, in a "yeah, this is cheesy, but it's so ROCK" kind of way
fight me

the chorus to wake up sounds like five finger death punch? i wasn't aware the lyrics were "WAKE UP MOTHERFUCKER I'M GONNA KILL YOU KILL YOU KILL YOU"

Yeah even less like FFDP lol, and Wake Up isn't a bad song but probably the simplest here. The verses are great though.

to be fair I've heard exactly one FFDP song y'all so i'll be honest in saying i dont know what the fuck i'm talking about, just what that chorus makes me think of

i agree with freddie, it sounds less like any particular band but more like a time period for mainstream rock.

Yeah not sure about that comparision either lol
I could do without that song anyways, with a longer version of Seneca.

"most of these songs are far from accessible arena rock"
not that far from it tbh. maybe not quite as shallow and instantly hateable as your typical nickelbacks and three days graces but honestly it's not that far off

Stay With Me could be on the radio too imo, but that song is so great
I definitely think this has somewhat of an arena rock vibe with the vocal melodies and choruses
it's jarring how incredible this album is instrumentally but how kinda generic the songwriting and lyrics are

ya stay with me would actually fair pretty well on the radio.
lyrics bring some of this down, true. particularly black honey

Even if some of this could be played on the radio, the actual compositions and chords being used on most of the songs are very unconventional for mainstream rock. Plenty of this is catchy, with some surface level similarities to radio rock, but it's still Thrice at its core.

Yeah musically this blows anything on the radio out of the water x10000

The ending of The Long Defeat into Seneca, as well as Black Honey remind me of Brand New's latest two albums more than anything else. Salt and Shadow sounds like it could come straight from The Alchemy Index II: Water. Hurricane and Whistleblower are massive rockers, and Death From Above recalls the most energetic and atmospheric moments of this band's past albums.

Black Honey sounds kinda similar to At The Bottom in the chorus so i can see that. I agree about everything but Whistleblower
