@Myth: 1. I thought it was good, but not as strong as I would have expected after Harvest Moon
2. I guess I'm taking a bit of a break from these bands for now that's all. Still haven't lost my interest in them though

Unmemorable, just like everything they've done after Viva Emptiness.

Have been jamming this almost everyday. It's hands down the best Katatonia album. Every song is basically perfect, Sanction grew on me, Pale Flag is a bit slow, Passer is killer but I tend to skip it. Every other track, especially Decima and Residual are good listens. Last Song before the fade, "My memories are deleted film" "You came back but so did I".. The bassline in Shifts... The breakdown in the night subscriber(especially double bass over quiet guitars). The way takeover builds. Serein intro. Serac especially when it chills out. "See you rise like the tide" Serac is probably my most jammed. Old Heart Falls is like an instant classic song about Europe. Also, really like Vakaren and think it should have been included on the original track list.

If it's so perfect, why would you skip a track?

This is not even as good as The Great Cold Distance. And that album already had songwriting problems. Let alone their first six albums. Those are truly exceptional albums.

Maco097 - you lose credibility just writing it ALL completely off as non memorable. I have the songs stuck in my head all day. You just sound bitter they changed stylistically a little from VE onwards.
There is so much gold from that album onwards, including before. Personally i just like Jonas vocal tone and style much more from TGCD onwards.
Before it, the vocals were slightly higher pitched and sort of more winey i reckon, and less rounded. I dont know, i think his vocals matured and came to their own from TGCD onwards, and for me thats the big reason i prefer all their material from TGCD onward.
However i adore many songs of LFDGD and VE in particular.

His voice may have improved through the years, unfortunately the music did just the opposite.

We will have to agree to vehemently disagree. Band is at its finest right now IMO.

Holy shit this is good. Was not expecting this after Dead End Kings.

Does anyone know what the time signature is in the opening passage of "Takeover"? I've been trying to figure out it but I can't for the life of me make sense of it. Brilliant song and album regardless.

I think it's 11/4

That would make sense... I counted 22 beats before the chord change but I wasn't sure how it was divided.

It doesn't quite work for the whole intro, though. A beat gets skipped somewhere, I think.

yeah, it's pretty strange for sure. The change is before he sings "your still voice drives me further".
It's 4 times 11/4, then I think one time 6/4 and one time 4/4 (that one 4/4 starts exactly when he sings "sky"), then it continues with 11/4.

So glad to have bought the edition with the DVD. The original CD's production pretty much blows and I don't know why I waited so much to listen to the DVD. So much better, hard to think of an album that will steal my AOTY title now.
