i guess i wish i saw this as anything more than generic modern prog wankery with annoying vocals, but i just cannot

good on them for enjoying it but the praise for this band is a little overblown imo

It's nothing new for the genre, but fans of Haken and those looking for that old "Dream Theater" sound will certainly like it.

I'm going to listen to the Mountain again and pretend it is their only output. Fuck off, it will be cool.

I only heard Visions maybe 3 times, as it was already in the shadow cast by the Mountain by the time I heard it. Timing can be almost everything.

This is on par, if not a little better than The Mountain for me. Never got into that album. Felt like it didn't have enough energy. This one is a bit similar, but it stumbles into moments that I really dig. One of the things that makes me return to this band is its ability to make me like things I usually don't.

Generally speaking I can't get into Jennings' vocals, but everything else is so well executed I can't help but like the band.

Pretty certain none of what I just wrote is a popular opinion around here.

Ross Jennings has a new side project. Well, Novena has been sort of around since 2013 when Bleeding Oath broke up and two of their members decided to start a new project but Moat was busy with No Sin Evades His Gaze and they didn't get a full lineup until recently, but here it is (feat. the dude from Slice the Cake): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6c2ZV_TM8E

Toondude: I don't see the dickishness that everybody is crying about. The worst thing I could find was you saying people who gave this a 5 are on drugs, and I think that's pretty tame. I also find it endlessly hilarious, that you almost singlehandedly made someone so mad they ran to reditt to get sympathy. Good shit, man.
