I wish there was a way to play the game the same way you experienced it the first time. There might be, but I have no idea.

It's a shame that the game is kinda designed for only 3 or 4 playthroughs. Still, no complaints. It's a really different experience that I enjoyed immensely. Can't wait to see what this dude does next.
This soundtrack, however, never gets even a little stale.

A friend recommended me the game ('It's Earthbound inspired, so you'll love it!') back when it was new and it's fandom wasn't as big as it is nowadays... I've found it incredibly emotionally manipulative and ended up killing Toriel cause she was pissing me the fuck off. I didn't feel guilty at all, because the game was trying waaay too hard to make me feel bad for 'murdering' a bunch of pixels. I was also pissed at all the forced, Mother-inspired jokes in the beginning.
I played it up to the Undyne fight and enjoyed it a bit more after saying goodbye to the goat, but in the end never finished it.
I wish that I could enjoy it like most people :/

I don't think I've heard someone actually getting pissed off at Toriel, what the fuck did she do?

Ashtrayu explaining why video games will never be considered art.

Toondude - her sweetness seemed really fake and grating to me. Too in your face, I would say... Taking into account that you're supposed to fight her late on, I think that Tobby tried to hard to make her likeable so that her 'betrayal' seems more surprising and shocking to the player. It's sort of like some players can't stand Aeris (though she was more nuanced than Toriel).
Oh, and I was pissed that she didn't even ask for the main character's name and yet wanted to make them live with her forever. WTF. That was really possesive and creepy.
Toad - the funny thing is... I usually don't have a problem with empathizing with video game characters. I guess the whole meta thing didn't work on me :/ I mean, from a certain standpoint Toriel has been dead ever since Fox wrote the battle scene and made killing her possible at all, so it doesn't matter if I let her live.
Though I have A LOT of respect for Tobby for coming up with the saving as time travel (or whatever) idea and all the little things that change in different playthroughs.
Vaxxi - I believe in video games as an art form, however Im not sure if Undertale is the best example. Emotionally manipulative movies exist too, so Undertale's main flaw isn't restricted to the medium.

" her sweetness seemed really fake and grating to me. Too in your face, I would say"
I think this was intentional, honestly. You begin the game almost slaughtered by a cute little flower who tells you the rules of the universe are to "kill or be killed" and then you just have a character who is over the top nice, solves puzzles for you, and teaches you a completely different set of rules than what was given to you prior. Its meant to make the player question what they can even trust between things like the spike puzzle or her not allowing you to leave. I thought it was a nice psychological twist.
" I think that Tobby tried to hard to make her likeable so that her 'betrayal' seems more surprising and shocking to the player"
This especially doesn't make sense because when does she "betray" you? Last i checked she wouldn't let you leave because she thought you were going to get killed like the other 7 kids who were there before. Its a pretty solid piece of character writing, when relating it to the previous point I made.
"Oh, and I was pissed that she didn't even ask for the main character's name and yet wanted to make them live with her forever. WTF. That was really possesive and creepy. "
Again, thats the point. She is a character who is flawed by how nice they are, but are meant to be flawed to put the player in a psychological ringer AND to be a sort of commentary on game tutorials that literally hold your hand instead of figuring things out yourself (again, the spike puzzle).

"I guess the whole meta thing didn't work on me :/ I mean, from a certain standpoint Toriel has been dead ever since Fox wrote the battle scene and made killing her possible at all, so it doesn't matter if I let her live."
The meta stuff didn't work, yeah. And killing her or letting her live is a massive part in determining what kind of game ending you're going to get. And minor changes in dialogue and character interactions in future and current playthroughs.
"Emotionally manipulative movies exist too, so Undertale's main flaw isn't restricted to the medium."
I don't think the game is emotionally manipulative, since the game is incredibly effective in changing how youre supposed to be playing and experiencing the level and the fight. I liked the fight because I thought if I damaged her enough she would let me go, but the game placing a purposeful critical hit against her and killing her if her HP is too low got me because I wasn't expecting it. And I certainly didn't expect the game to make FUN of me for resetting it to prevent her from dying. It was genuinely great writing, and you don't get that much from games anymore...

played this game recently and despite it's abomination of a fanbase, it was legitimately excellent and thoroughly enjoyable
loved the soundtrack too
