I feel that. Everyone keeps talking about playing his music today and I honestly don't see how, I made it less than a minute before having to turn the song off

For me it feels like honoring him..."seeing him off" in a way while his death is still fresh. I can certainly understand someone feeling like it's too soon, though.

And yes, start with Midnight Organ Fight.

I never thought the world could feel so empty with the absence of a stranger. Ive never been this affected by the death of a public figure before.

Oh yeah objectively I totally understand honoring him and listening to his stuff, just idk, I guess way too soon for me lol

I'm right there with you Adolf, this one has certainly hit me the hardest, he's probably been the most important artist of my adult life and it honestly feels like I've lost a close friend

Yeah I'm firmly in the listening feels morbid and uncomfortable camp right now. So upset by this.

I had a pretty nasty panic attack last year due to personal issues that caught me by surprise, and last March I was feeling the so-called anniversary effect of those feelings. Everything in that first paragraph is bang on the mark. Well done.

Maybe I should check this out.

i referenced Little Drum in one of the first songs ive ever written ("i waited for the crash to come and it came"). it seemed appropriate considering i was 25 at the time this came out ("the little drum inside behaves itself until you turn 25"). i had liked FR before, but i think this album was the gateway for me to fall in love with their discography. i was still dealing with crippling anxiety at the time and i gravitated toward this album. also saw them live not too long after this came out. the band was a bigger part of my life than i realized.

Tragically overlooked record, honestly one of the dew musician deaths that still has me choke up about it here and there.

Death dreams I don't forget
It's been a while since I dreamed this
But, even now, asleep, I'll tread with care

They recorded the tribute event they did in NYC. listening to Ben Gibbard sing Death Dream with Julian Baker, Craig Finn, Aaron Dessner, and Kevin Devine was shattering.

After I finish The National, I’m going through these guys discog next (or Dear Hunter — who should be first?).

Just curious how “Rock-y” these guys are. Do they ever get heavy-ish, scream etc, or is it more laid back and restrained? Either one is fine, just curious.

Not screamish, no. Just very potent emotionally and lyrically.

Sounds great. Sounds like Manchester Orchestra a bit, so I’m hyped.

A little bit like that yeah. Took me a while to get used to the Scottish accent though.
