So what exactly don't you like about this art? I know you enjoy Entering The Light, but what don't you like about songs like Crater, Skyline and Contemplation Of The Beautiful. For me this is one of the most powerful and original prog albums in ages.

i explained it a few pages back i think. so yeah it's not like i hate this album but the sound is very sterile and the vocal performances are quite underwhelming for the most part. there are a lot of interesting arrangements here but most of the synths and guitar solos are just 'why'

that said, i really enjoy entering the light as you noticed

Fair enough, I largely enjoy the outside of the box influences you don't normally hear in prog here. It all sounds very refreshing. I have my limits, but I tend to really enjoy very polished sounds too.

@toon: If they teamed up with Two Steps From Hell I'd be all over it.

well they're pretty symphonic as it is so I'm not sure they need to pull of something like the last Epica album and be as cinematic as possible.

my point exactly, granted I actually liked the new Epica but they did go a bit overboard with the cinematic shtick

This is a bit overrated imo but I'm glad it's getting good rep anyways

I actually enjoyed the new Epica, probably more than TQE. I wouldn't say teaming up with 2SFH would or should necessarily mean more cinematic aspects as much as it could be better cinematic aspects. Not sure how much prior experience Earthside have with that already, but maybe Tom and Nick could be to Earthside as James Newton Howard was to Hans Zimmer for BB and TDK.

New Epica wasn't by any means atrocious. It just lacks any sense of direction and fails to bring many sentiments on the table. Just a really well crafted album.
