Yeah, the atmosphere on here is incredible.

I prefer Roads just by a tad. This is top 10 on the year though for sure.

Definitely top 10 for me as well. Hard to say if I prefer this or roads. I think this just edges it, but the end of "In Silence" is one of my favorite music passages ever, which works in Roads's favor. Drums absolutely go off and the riff rocks so hard.

I'm so close to 5 on this honestly.

The only thing that keeps me from enjoying Roads as much as this are the bluegrass elements.
They aren't bad, but I just don't like the way that they were utilized on Roads and Kentucky. Here, they're almost entirely confined to the intro and the intro track is extremely good.

agreed

That's fair. I really like the bluegrass stuff personally. I agree the more reserved usage of it on this makes sense though - it's a bit more cohesive.

So far I actually dig Roads a bit more. It just has a very specific atmosphere and moments that just hit really hard - like the main riff in Where Mountains Pierce The Sky and its outro. Or when the song structure changes in Sigh of Summer, particularly around the 5:20 mark and the outro.
So far this album doesn't hit as hard for me yet.

Well I'm relatively new to BM, only in the last 6 to 8 months or so have I really gotten into it, so I more or less jammed this and Roads together which leaves me with a slightly different impression, I would guess.

Glad I did get into it though, one of my favorite things to listen to and I've loved going through all the classics.

Maybe give it some time, Cap. Don't think this is a very immediate album.

Idk, seems in line with his general progression as of late.

I would agree, I think this is his most well constructed album in the series as it follows similar ideas but really distills them into their tightest and most concise forms.

This was very immediate for me.

[3] One of my favorite metal albums since 2010, gets better and better with each listen.

Up there for me as well. Definitely a top 10 of the year finisher.

I gotta hear his other ones besides just Kentucky haha, though I enjoyed that one more than most. It's a fun listen. I've been meaning to get around to Roads for what feels like forever now.
