While I don't love it, this reminds me more of the C&C from Second Stage Turbine Blade. I loved that album and wasn't into the big prog stadium rock sound that they began to take after that record. This album isn't nearly as good at that album, but I prefer this over solo after solo after solo after solo.

Island, Atlas, Ghost and Peace to the Mountain are the only tracks I go back to. The Audience maybe.

There's like 2 listenable tracks here. Every time I see C&C's name I get sad now. It's like with Cynic and Kindly Bent...somehow, retroactively, a bands discog just gives off bad vibes because of how far they fell in a single LP.
I know the style of music and lyrical content is gonna change between the album you make when you're 20 and when you're pushing 40, but I don't like the new direction at all.

I mean, this album definitely doesn't deserve the shit that so many people gave it. I think, for me, the biggest problem is that it just doesn't have that epic feel that the rest of their catalog has. Whenever I start NWFT or IKSSE:3, or even the Afterman, there's almost this sense of adventure. This album is just a solid rock album. Nothing overtly bad but nothing that just makes me feel what those make me feel. That being said, "Peace to the Mountain" and "Island" are great tracks.

island is a perfect pop rock song. perfect.

It's got that energy that their earlier albums have. It's got what plants crave.

See, and I think it totally lacks that energy. Ascension/Descension hinted at it after the stinker of an album that came before, but then this one obliterated any hopes I had of them returning to that formula.
Which is fine, they're allowed to evolve and I don't have to like it, but I'm kind of bummed that this is the end of the line of my love for them.
Not a bad breezy rock album, but my score reflects its status as a C&C album.
Time to spin their early stuff....

Oh I was just speaking about "Island" alone with my previous comment.
Band used to be my #1 favorite for years but they are starting to wear off.

I still love them. They've had surprising longevity, and while I don't think this album is the best, I still find it to be heaps better than lots of other things I've heard.

Aww hell, been jamming Good Apollo I and got sucked right back in.
This album's a grower but I still don't like the way Claudio sings Atlas with the raspiness, much prefer the vox on the acoustic version. That said, Young Love is a favorite.

Shit calms down when you settle down and have kids. I get it.
"Atlas" is still a jam - a few others on here ("Island," "Mountain," "Mars"), but otherwise... Well, I'm excited for more Amory Wars.

Atlas, young love and audience are keepers. Maybe htm. Last 2 albums have been mostly throw away. I miss being in love with this band.

A lot of it is "Good" but rarely does it live up to the standard that they set with their first four albums.
Peace to the Mountain is serene though.

I honestly wish we could get another Prize Fighter Inferno album before anymore nonsense like this.

Wasn't Half Measures supposed to be a new PFI record?
In recent interviews Claudio said the next album is going back to the Amory Wars story and will be proggy.
I'm hoping for an acoustic album of all-new material, they do that style really well.
