It's not really that hard of a concept that sometimes when a band starts to get extra attention, certain fans of the band might be excited about that. Shoddsam

Although it's not a terrible album, the thing that pisses me off is when the band are quoted saying "oh yeah we went soft and started singing because we're happy now and didn't want to shout because that's angry" and I'm thinking, why is shouting/screaming in music angry or sad? Listening to stuff like Everytime I Die is extremely fun and happy and they shout a lot. I just think the whole lie about the change in sound is the biggest piss take. They've seen what their mates in You Me At Six have achieved by writing bland radio rock and becoming Radio 1's little bum boys and the money they are getting and wanted a piece of that cashish. I wonder what the drummer/bassist/guitarist are feeling also? Did they just stfu and think about the money? Because this is obviously Oli and the keyboardist's influence and I can't see the rest of the band who used to play quite heavy go to slow simple songs.

On my first listen I really didn't like this at all but it grew on me a little... it's just so thoroughly generic and I feel some of the choruses are forced as hell, especially on 'Happy Song' where the transition seems to not really suit. The production and mixing on this record is so inconsistent at points as well

...then get some pizza? Really not sure why you're still here if you're clearly having a pizza crisis.

Don't get the issue with Happy Song, it's catchy and also includes probably the only throwback to Sempiternal after the bridge. My only issue with it is that is starts the trend of the pulsating offbeat synth thing they use in like 3 songs on this, which is too many.

They do overuse the whole quite synth pulse thing a bit on this

I'm going to leave this as a simple speculation.

I've been following this band since its inception and have to say i've grown to be less and less of a fan with every album (except 2010's TIAH which I loved).

Therefore, I had a whole lot of anticipation back in 2012 when they said that their 4th record would be a mixture of the 2010's sound with more prog and post rock elements. Instead Sempiternal (no matter how good you think it is) showed very little of these proposed directions.

As soon as I heard that album I knew that would be the last BMTH album I would enjoy, I told myself "savour it while it lasts because they'll be no more", now i can see I was right. One now can only speculate what Jona Weinhofen controversial and sudden departure really meant.

In hindsight however, it makes perfect sense. In 2012 the band hires Jordan Fish and prepares to take on a new direction. Jona is opposed and gets kicked out since he's not a founding member anyway. Sempiternal is created on a sort of balance between the older heavier elements and the newer direction, tasting the ground for what's to come. Unsurprisingly the band releases a single (Drown) soon after the new record. I'm pretty sure back in 2012 BMTH knew exactly where they wanted to be by 2015 and this new album clearly shows that to us all once and for all.

should've just changed their name if they wanted to completely sever their metalcore roots.
