"anthony's lyrics seem like nonsense because u don't have the mental capacity to make sense of them"
ok, here's some kiedis lyrics from 'desecration smile':
"all alone not by myself
another girl bad for my health
i've seen it all thru someone else"
the first line, wow he's used juxtaposition, wow, he's said one thing and contradicted it straight away. subtle. ok, it can still be meaningful, we all know that we can feel alone even in company but a 7 year old could write that 'i'm all alone but im not by myself'.
oh look, he's used the word 'girl': what a suprise, not like he's done that before. oh and what's this, he thinks that she's not doing him any favours, maybe life would be simpler without her. ho what original thought, might aswell burn my robert frost right now, as the stadium arcadium booklet will provide me with all the intellectual stimulation i need.
crucially, how do the lines make any sort of profound statement when combined? the best i can find is that he's alone metaphorically but not physically, that he looks to relationships to help him but they don't and that he's living life vicariously. now this i admit is solid grounding for really meaningful wordage but it lacks development majorly.
this is not BAD writing. it rhymes which always has at least some effect, and there is discernible meaning and understanding behind it. yet my argument is that it is not the kind of awe-inspiring lyrical brilliance that people keep on saying it is. like i said before, compare stadium arcadium to something like the holy bible by the manic street preachers (or to be fair even to californication) and the lyrics are just inferior. the themes established are basic and few, meaning a lot of the songs end up saying the same thing as each other. the main reason im disappointed is that kiedis articulated himself so poetically on every album from 'blood sugar' to 'by the way'.
i'm not meaning to sound pretentious, and my opinion is no more valuable than anyone else's. if people find inspiration in the lyrics on the album thats a really cool thing, but my point is that from an objective artistic point of view there is better stuff out there, some of it written by kiedis himself.

Who cares about the lyrics. True, lyrics are a huge part of music, but as for the rhcp that's not what make them so good. Half the time none of it makes sence. We didn't need to here a whole paragraph explaining this.
I can respect your opinion, joh, but wether that was necesary or not(what I said) I just wanted to say it This Message Edited On 05.14.06This Message Edited On 05.14.06

I have grown to like Jupiter a lot more within the past week. It has a much more hushed sound to it than Mars, which is rather more uptempo. I really dig the groove on She's Only 18.
EDIT: To Flea is Godly: It really shouldn't matter that Johnsoxe typed his opinion in paragraph form. He supported his opinion with examples, and provided a very clear understanding. Now if i am not mistaken, Evaluation is the highest level of learning on Bloom's Taxonomy. He should not be criticized because he supported himself well. This Message Edited On 05.14.06

Gotta tell ya, Hump de Bump is a terrible piece of music.

Im as big a fan of The Chili's as the next man, if not, more so. However, it must be said, Hump de Bump is a terrible piece of music. The only bad song, and there for, the only let down from the last three albums (aside from Throw Away Your Television". Dire).

anthony's lyrics are nonsense because he is not skilled enough to make them make sense.
for example it is painfully clear some lyrics were written because them rhyme rather than because they mean something. don't get me wrong, kiedis has been impressive lyrically in the past, but with all due respect to the guy compared to the sheer intelligence of someone like richey james, maynard james keenan or chris cornell he just isn't going to be able to compete.
Well if Maynard James, or Richey James want to compare success and album sales they may fall a little flat. And do you not know that the RHCP are a funk-pop-rock band. There music is not to listen to and be blown away by poetic lyrics. It's meant to be listened to and enjoyed.
Who cares if you've got good lyrics, if you don't have an interesting or catchy melody (Tool). The Beatles didn't write amazing lyrics, but they are considered one (if not the) best band of all-time, as well as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, and the list goes on and on.
the first line, wow he's used juxtaposition, wow, he's said one thing and contradicted it straight away. subtle. ok, it can still be meaningful, we all know that we can feel alone even in company but a 7 year old could write that 'i'm all alone but im not by myself'.
Is Juxtaposition not when you place two things together that contrast eachother such as a tall person, next to a midget. I think the first line would more of a paradoxical line. And I like how in an argument people will pick the weakest lines to tear apart. For instance if you were arguing that Little Richard can't write lyrics you'd probably use the line "Womp bomp a lu bop" to illustrate that point.

Sorry, its true he did a good job making his point, but I think there is not alot to expect lyrically from Anthony. I shouldn't have critisized him for making a good comment. (i mean not like "i love this album" "_ is the best!")
| | | The funky songs are great: Charlie, Torture Me, Hump De Bump.
The title-track is very good too.
