"twin quest" is easily my favorite of the singles. love the transition from contained, low-key pop mew to expansive post-rock mew between measures. really good stuff. i dig the closer too though the videos single seems pretty par for the course.

I've been listening to nothing but Mew the past week it seems. This may not be their best as a whole, but I swear Rows might be their best song. It's like in my all time favorites.

Agreed. That outro is just not long enough.

Yeah. Should be a 10 hour version. I'm considering upping this to a 4.5. Too many good songs here. The last 2 are some of their best, as well as "Satellites" and "Clinging to a Bad Dream". I feel this album is overlooked so hard. It's not quite on the level of No More Stories or Frengers (both are 5's), but the strong points here are really strong. Unfortunately a couple in the meat of this album are some of their lesser cuts, namely "The Night Believer" and "My Complications". I still enjoy this quite a bit more than Glass Handed Kites by a pretty fair margin though and I have that one at a 4 and don't see myself moving it down. Mew is underrated as hell. I can definitely say they're among my favorite bands.

Woah, The Night Believer and My Complications are awesome. The latter and Witness have been my go-to jams when I'm just feeling like some energy filled rock.
But yeah, these last 2 tracks are two of their best, for sure.
After I've finally listened to everything Frengers and beyond, I'm happy to say these guys are becoming one of my favorite bands.

Witness is incredible and recalls No More Stories (my personal favorite Mew) very well. It's this album's Repeaterbeater. Short, concise, catchy. Feels like I listened to a 6 minute song in just 3. My Complications has an awesome guitar riff and sound but it's way too long and drawn out. If it were shorter it would be better. The songs passing the 6 minute mark here live up to that timeframe, Complications isn't one of them. It's not a bad song by any means. The band has never made anything bad, but it's one of their lesser cuts, imo. The Night Believer is probably my least favorite in the discog, though. But without those 2 or if they were altered, I'd give this a 5 and never look back. This album is the tits. Mew's best moments live within this album, no doubt about it.
Glad you're enjoying Mew though. Many say it takes multiple listens to really catch onto them. Guess I'm fortunate enough where they immediately click. I think where a lot go wrong is that a lot of their longer tracks are on this album and if you are not sure of them, it's not the best place to start. But if you're in love with the band, you'll enjoy it a ton. Just gotta prepare for long songs that kinda go all over the place.

"must have listened to the new songs more than i ever did the entire +- album. so in love with carry me to safety"
Carry Me to Safety is a great song, but it has me thinking Mew is a bit confused. Say what you will about them, but Mew can close a damn album like nobody's business. And that is their problem with Carry Me to Safety. It's not a good closer. I feel like there's something missing or supposed to be another track after it. It's just not a *Mew* closer like I know they're capable of. Carry Me to Safety is like a 3.7/5. All their previous album closers are objectively 5/5. I'm just used to a 7-minute cathartic epic and Carry Me to Safety just isn't that, unfortunately. Really and truly, Mew combines their second to last song along with it as well for something out of this world. Considering Carry Me to Safety's song before it is 2 minutes long is also kind of a bummer. I mean White Lips Kissed and Louise Louisa, Sometimes Life Isn't Easy and Reprise, Rows and Cross the River. I wouldn't say necessarily She Spider and Comforting Sounds but at least Comforting Sounds is that epic feeling. I can't judge yet, but I'm going off their previous stuff. I know it'll be a great album but it just feels like a first world problem lol. Mew has just blessed me with too damn much to hear an unfulfilling 4 minute closer with a 2 minute track before it

Did y'all see their new Instagram post? They're talking about being excited to tour with Coldplay. Gag a maggot. I hope this doesn't put any indication on the sound of the new album

they were an indie pop band with the last album. touring with coldplay isnt worrying or even unexpected. mew are a good band because theyre a good band, not because they arent quite mainstream. im pleased for them that theyre touring with coldplay, if anything.

I don't care if they're mainstream or not, Coldplay is trash. I just didn't want them to signal that they were going all Adventure of a Lifetime with Visuals.
