dude Ash stop trying to convince him that this album objectively universally works, he's explaining what doesnt work for him and why that doesnt mean it cant work for you dont take it so personally.

to be totally fair i don't listen to a ton of folk, but there are plenty of ways to innovate within a genre. inventive song structures, fucking use of dynamics besides making every song quiet the whole way through, and variation of singing technique go a long way.

Lol at his singing being emotionless. When so much praise is given to him because of how much emotion he can convey. You don't like the album, whatever, but don't be an idiot.

the only person being an idiot itt right now is you, danielito is being super respectful and is perfectly entitled to his feelings about it. get over the fanboyism.

I have heard The Tallest Man on Earth and he is excellent

But Sufjan chose on purpose to sound the way he did on this record. It is supposed to be whispy. It makes it sound more personal. You keep saying his singing is monotone. You need to listen again then, because the man knows what he needs to sound like at every lyric to get his point across.

just because something is 'supposed' to be a certain way doesn't mean it works for everyone or at all. that is the most fallacious argument i've ever heard. you clearly let your feelings cloud your logic about music.

nah I enjoyed illinois quite a bit. the songs there had distinct personalities that set them apart from each other.

SHUT. UP. POTSY. JESUS.

He doesn't have to like it, I don't care, but his opinion makes no sense to me.

i mean i could choose to record all my singing while squeezing out a massive dump in order to more accurately portray being under immense physical strain but that wouldn't make it sound good

Ok danielito, that's fine. I can understand that argument at least a bit. To somebody who doesn't listen to a lot of folk, I can see how the songs are very similar here.
