"I dunno, the final meeting between Cooper and super-old Murph just didn't cut it for me. I don't feel like it did justice to all their other interactions throughout the movie which were superbly written and acted. Don't know how better to say it"

fair enough.

for me it worked. the implication was that she went into hyper sleep and essentially saved her last breath to see her father one last time and McConaughey's reaction to seeing his daughter after his ordeal showed great impact. To me, the scene didn't need some long speech from both of them. She understood what her father had sacrificed for her and in the end she simply wanted her father to find a bit of happiness in what might be a relationship with Brand

toxin it was established that they had a history, that they new each other while they were younger, and they lived together for years on the ship. if they went any further, it would be getting towards the sappy hollywood romance story we all wanted them to avoid. seriously, what did you want here? a scene where they hold hands and braid each other's hair? a scene where they talk about the good ol times? (wait, there was a scene like that)

the first time you're introduced to Hathaway's character they get into their past relationship so much, almost too much. yes it's an opinion I just don't get yours, like it seems nothing could have pacified you. the dynamic between them was very strong throughout the film.

the part with Murph and Cooper at the end was painfully flawed. like, all those other family members he just shoo shoo's out of the room....uhhh...what? she put off death to see him, but he's not interested in all those familly members he's been away from for so long? they were cast as extras when logically they wouldn't be at all. like, thanks asshole, I've been waiting to meet you too.

also, why the FUCK were there TVs playing videos of old people talking about "the good ol days" of Earth in his recreated home? there was no reason for that, super cheesy and stupid. I was hoping the tie-in to the opening shots of the movie would be good but christ it sucked.

it's a movie for a reason. it's supposed to have dramatic affect. that's why in movie arguments someone usually storms off, because in reality you're usually still stuck in the general vicinity of the person you've argued with and it's awkward for a while, unless you wanna be that melodramatic emo that has to storm off after every argument.

it's not dramatic to have Cooper sit there and partake in some lame family reunion

The scene with the ship passing by Saturn with the piano gently layered over the silence sent chills down my spine

Nolan is a slave of his own success. Everytime you think the movie becomes awesome, some hollywood cliches appears and kind of drags the movie down. When I went out of the cinema I thought it was ok but could've been so much better. But I guess with such high expectations and a huge financial investment there is no way to avoide what people wanna see in a blockbuster: Some cringeworthy talk about the power of love and a protagonist who's playing the selfless hero while doing some neat spinning-action-moves with his shuttle.

Still a movie worth seeing and the score is really awesome at times, but also might get boring here and there.

I wasn't stacking all of Nolan against all of Kubrick, cos ol' Stanley definitely wins on that counts
But just in terms of Interstellar and 2001 I would take Interstellar any day of the week
