Yeah coz it's an important factor for me. Especially when the music doesn't match up. If they were fucking amazing, I wouldn't give two shits how they chose to portray themselves to their fans.

Fair enough. I'll never understand that viewpoint though. If Opeth dressed up as the Wiggles in all of their promotional shoots, I honestly wouldn't care.

A band's image has never mattered to me.

Its like me arguing over Bring Me's music verses their image. It's not worth it.

"A band's image has never mattered to me."

Image shows me what type of people are behind the band. Real people or just posers in it for the fame.

Bring Me The Horizon?

They've never had a controversial image; typical alternative fashion honestly.

Also, if the music is exceptionally (Vektor for example) well performed then obviously if the band members dress up, it ain't for publicity or fame or attention. It's just expression.

Pretty sure the Vektor dudes just wear jeans and t-shirts. No make-up. Just look like straight up metal fans who could be my neighbours or something. So yeah, no posing there.

"Especially when the music doesn't match up."

Idk about you but I think the imagery the band presents really fits the music.

One thing about your argument I forgot to mention;

Scene - Optimistic, filled with arguably cringey expressions "rawr, xD", etc., appearance is emo culture with the addition of bright colors, and additional accessories, hair is usually black with some kind of colored extensions made to be over the top.

Hipster - Pessimistic, filled with arguably cringey expressions "triggered (the non troll use), patriarchy, etc", hair is either chopped completely off or a random bright color with no extensions or highlights, lenseless glasses and other weird accessories.

We clearly aren't getting through to each other.

I'm saying a band doesn't need an image. It's all about the music. Who cares how they look. Ideally, if I never saw the band itself, it should make no difference to me.

Why does something like a bands image matter. Hence my problem with bands that focus a lot on their looks. It's vain and unimportant.

"I'm saying a band doesn't need an image." "Why does something like a bands image matter."

A band does not a need any form of image as you said, however when an image is presented I think it should be taken into a consideration is it makes you enjoy the band more. This is especially apparent in live shows for some bands, where it influences their ideas in the show to bridge the gap between the traditional gig and a performance. A lot of times bands just look like what the music presents and the art in their packaging for albums brings that forward, which is just fine however sometimes in can given go further than this where to the extent where it gives hints and themes the music does not or has has entire segments of their gigs to enhance the atmosphere (e.g. the Nuns for Ghost's shows or the 'Inward Scream' segments of Dir en Grey shows). It overall creates more of a world that the music wants to create into a reality, which is why when it's presented I appreciate visual art in packaging and shows. Obviously the music matters by far the most, so stuff like this is icing on the cake really at the end of the day.
