It's cool to hate new Opeth.

[2] only recently at least. I doubt they'll get any better at this stage, unfortunately

I'd say this is an improvement over Heritage.

Also loving the Yahtzee avatar Choccy! Good to see ZP getting some appreciation round here.

I'd say so too, but not that much of an improvement

Gotta love a bit of ZP. Even if i'm well behind games, I still watch for his commentary

This is very good, though their old style is just so much better. Don't see why they don't play that just minus the growling vocals which he obviously can't do anymore. Doing throwback 70's prog can't be that fun and rewarding for this long...

They don't need to do their old style minus the growls, they just need to progress with more experimentation. Bring in some weird guest instruments, have some middle eastern/sub continental influence like on Atonement or some shit.

I think they should get Skrillex to produce the next album instead of SW.

the avg keeps dropping on this but honestly it's a lot better than Heritage.

How honest are you being Fear?

"I think they should get Skrillex to produce the next album instead of SW."

SW just mixed a few songs on PC. Not sure a change in producer would really change too much, it all depends on Akerfeldt's mood

It's slightly cheesier with more annoying singing but is also heavier and more dynamic and engaging so they're about on par for me at this point

A lot more coherent than Heritage, this is actually growing on and not off me like it has for some

I'm with Omair with this one. Some innovative experimentation would really do them some good; they're honestly not doing anything special with this throwback style

Very honest considering Heritage never really clicked with me until a long stretch down the road. I believe this is just much better put together and has an even better emphasis on the progressive side without overdoing it.

The next album needs to have some experimentation otherwise it's going to become stale.
