bwp was def a risk as it took the band in a more streamlined direction i mean it obviously gained a shit ton of new fans but it was a bold step away from trvth

Both were pretty safe, I mean what were the risks?



They didn't change their style they just made it cleaner and more streamlined which was hardly gonna lose them many fans. BWP might have made some of the pissbores out there turn their noses up but in the grand scheme of things it wasn't really a risk at all.



and Still Life is pretty much the definition of playing it safe in music terms.

I'm not gonna be like potsy and tell you every Opeth album (bar the obvious 3) sounds exactly the same but there was a period where Opeth played it safe to the extreme.
