The swastikas are forgivable. The papyrus font is not.

His usage here at least brings up the "should non-racist Pagans be allowed to take back the swastika" discussion, instead of being an explicitly racist usage.

@zaru: Skyforger comes to mind. They had the swastika in their logo for the longest time, but eventually changed it because they felt they were getting applause from the wrong kind of people.
I fear the swastika will be confusing the western world for the next 100 years at least.

Yeah, people assuming he's using swastika's for his artwork is extremely ignorant.

"its not even a swastika lmao"
The whole thing is seriously outlined in swastikas

I'm not going to defend Varg, but he could easily say those aren't swastikas if he wanted. That line connecting the downward right to the upward left breaks the icon, I'm positive he wanted it to be swastikas but that's kind of a built in defense

That's a swastika for sure, but not a Nazi swastika. I would assume he used it because of It's neolithic origins.
This runestone (which I've seen irl as well) is a good example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snoldelev_Stone

The swastika is an image found in cultures all over the world, including northern European ones. The connotation isn't automatically fascism / racism / antisemitism. When it's Varg fucking Vikernes using it though, you'd have to be seriously in denial, or seriously fucking stupid, not to gauge the intention behind his use of the symbol
|
| |
He dresses his art and political views in words, symbols and aesthetics from nordic history and mythology, but that's just in an effort to make his fascist outlook marginally more attractive
|
| |
He hasn't identified as a neo-nazi in over a decade though.
|
| |
Because fascism often doesn't arrive appearing barbaric, or evil. It comes in a stylish Hugo Boss uniform, it comes bearing ancient images, it plays upon people's nostalgia for heritage and tradition
|
| |
Doesn't matter what tags he uses (or doesn't use because they have too much baggage). You needn't watch a full video of his on youtube from the last couple years to see his views are of a distinctly neo-nazi nature
|
| |
he might not be a Nazi affiliate but he's definitely still a nationalist and European cultural/racial supremacist.

Didn't even notice the swastikas until now

Me neither. The juxtaposition of the swastika ring with the artwork is so bizarre it makes the whole thing hilarious to look at.
