Yeah Big Empty is def up there.
Core is actually my third out of three. I know that’s unusual. Most of the songs are just so, so played out for me. When this album came out, those songs were played constantly on the radio, especially Plush. As good as that album is, I have a hard time even listening to it these days. Except for Dead and Bloated, of course. Never get tired of that song.

Yeah. The benefit I had of that situation is that I just never listened to the radio lol. I can see core being beyond played out for like 50% of its songs and that's sad cuz they're just so fucking good but burnout is real

So how/when did this even come to be called "Purple" ? It says it nowhere on the physical album itself, anywhere I've seen it for sale simply has it tagged as "Stone Temple Pilots," & it ain't even purple!
Something I've been wondering for a while now - but yeah I like this way more than Core, feels like they came into their own quite a bit more from here on out

i think i remember some interview weiland did where they asked him about the name 'Purple' and he just said it was because it was his favorite colour and cuz it's the colour of bruises.
lol who knows tho

yeah but like
isn't it crazy that it's supposedly the name of the record but it's nowhere on the record ?

not just the album cover (unless that japanese character means exactly that) but the liner notes, album label itself, side of the packaging, nowhere. it's fuckin' nuts, i don't know if i've ever seen another record where the title was nowhere to be found
my first guess is that this was clearly meant to be a self-titled but then last minute (like, after the shit was already printed, sent out, etc) they decided it was in fact going to be called "Purple"

Jamming this today for the first time in awhile. So much nostalgia tied to this one.
Also jammed Tiny Music. Still my favorite two STP albums. Hard to say which I prefer because it’s so close. Usually I give the slight edge to Purple, but today I’d give the slight edge to Tiny Music. Both hard 4s. Then Core and No 4 are 3.5s for me. Don’t really like the rest, though I do like the EP with Chester, but I’m a huge fan of Chester and his vocal style.

so something i've been wondering for a while now: was this album just called "Purple" at the absolute last minute or something? because literally nothing in the album art or anything actually references it as being called "Purple," if you just picked this up from a friend's collection or something with no store label or anything you'd think it was a self-titled

Definitely best STP
Then 'Tiny Music'
'Core' is ok but something's up with the production and it's a little boring in places
