I think it's something about the way the instruments are in the production. I totally get the lyrics and so and so, but the musicianship bores me. And then there are those places on the album where I really like it, but then it just seems too subtle for me, as if it's hidden within the layers of the production. If that makes sense.
Or put like this: everytime I get halfway through it (or just through the first few tracks), it kinda bores me

exactly, wildlife isn't boring. i had high as fuck hopes for this thing after hearing "stay happy there", but that's like the
only track on here with energy.

OK, I relistened anyway, and bumped it back up to a 3.5 because I still love the lyrics, and yes, have a certain admiration for the change in sound, although it is not one I care as much for, as on their previous records.

Wildlife is their weakest i think. When I first jammed this, I still dug it but I could tell that it was different and a bit simplified. After a few listens it grew enough on me that it's my favorite.

I liked this bands past work, but I just found myself bored to death halfway through the album. I don't like using the word pretentious, for I feel it's over used, but thats what I think when it comes to this album. Not awful, but a step back in my opinion.
