I think it's cool that they release the demos to all of their albums, but aside from Black Crosses being slightly better than White Crosses (which is a complete shit stain, so it's not hard to be better) and all of the pre-Axl songs being ruined with a full band, I don't see any point to listen to inferior versions. I know Gabel prefers a lot of the demos on Cowboy to the final album but I just don't dig 'em

still prefer reinventing to the acoustic ep. i just love the full band sound. listening to it is like being at a punk anarchist rally or something.

I like White Crosses. I think you're more in love with the sloppy drawl and completely fuck all style of the earlier stuff more than the content itself, because with the exception of a couple tracks every Against Me! song is rather similar regardless of what album its on. I get that, because that energy of their first two LPs and first few EPs is insane, but White Crosses is a great album bar Butch Vig's super glossy production.

It stills seems weird to me. Tom Gabel looked so... manly. I wouldn't be surprised if the singer from La Dispute would become a woman, but yeah, this stuff took me by surprise. Gonna listen, hope I'll love it.

Black Crosses is a mixture of rawness and acoustic tracks all over and it benefits greatly. If White Crosses had been more raw in the production and ESPECIALLY in the vocals, I'd have given it a higher rating
@redsky: I think they just got more poppy and clean as they went on. I also think the lyrics took a nose dive. I'd consider this a slight return to form after the past two records, but I'm still not loving it. I did bump it from a 2 to a 2.5 after listening to it about 5 more times, so maybe it's just a grower for me

I think lyrically they're just more self-aware. When you're 19 politics are so black and white and every struggle is yourself against the world holding you back, where as you age you start seeing that punk politics are really so contradictory and pointless. Their earlier stuff rest purely on the power of conviction. Every lyric is designed to be a jab but in the greater picture there's very little actual grounded weight behind anything on the the first two EPs and Reinventing. It's all pissing in the wind, even if it's gloriously doing so.

I'm a huge biological male built like a linebacker, but I have gender dysphoria. In fact a lot of trans girls start out super manly because that's what causes the dysphoria, having a super masculine body but a feminine mind.

Actually, fish, I said I was trans back when Graham was still here but apparently he is the only who
remembers (besides yakky).
