Album Rating: 3.5 | Sound Off
Following my reluctant rummaging through this album's repertiore of mediocre compost, I had stumbled onto a few shining highlights.
The Instagram-esque filter effects included on her later videos really emphasized the more subtle tones in her lyricism. I beg for the days when the common people lived as though the filter were the typical. Then I hear the onset of Timbaland's beat in Yoncé, and I feel transported to the grand markets of some foreign realm.
Above all, for sake of brevity, is Drunk In Love. One word from it actually, that being ‘surfbordt', a portmanteau of “surf” and “abort”. Her appearance with Jay-Z comes to show their mutual and growing disinterest in keeping a child. However, under the weight of celebrity media, the couple is simply forced to ride the proverbial wave out. This is by far Beyoncé's most personal album.
