Depends on where you want to begin. If you want to be a drooling tech/death monkey like most of Sputnic (and I say that with love) you should check out Death. Listen to Human and Symbolic. Then go and find Athiest and Cynic.... If you want something more gutteral I would recommend early Cannibal Corpse. Morbid Angel and Deicide (and early Death) are great for the Florida scene. Then you can start on the European bands......
