Ok. That was actually good. After their last album I thought they were completely dead in the water, but they have improved immensely here. I actually enjoyed this
"Dream Theater as a whole is reminiscent of the Dream Theater from around Scenes From A Memory, but with an even more technical outlook"
spot on.

This sounds nothing like Scenes at all

^^ In retrospect.
"look at the difference between the high res files and the album files, double the dynamic range omg"
Bad production. Why is this ok to release a physical CD with the quality of a 96kbs MP3 from 10 years
ago. This is saddening. Will be getting the HD tracks fist chance I get.
edit: Then again I could just rip the DVD audio. According to the DRD the dynamics are the same :D

The transitions at 5:03 and 6:30 are gorgeous. The guitar solo is brilliant (talk box usage :O), and everyones having a good time. Even Labrie had a good night.

illumination theory gets better every listen

@Omair
Man that might well be the best version of that song ive ever heard from them. Really wish they would look back to these golden moments and see that their latest album is a complete fuck-up in comparison. That solo is what Petrucci should really sound like, along with this one:

How can some retarded fanboys claim that this album is as good as SFoaM ???
Only 2 or 3 decent songs : The Enemy Inside, The Looking Glass and Enigma Machine.
Illumination Theory is the worst DT epic ever! Riffs are mediocre, transitionning is ridiculous, and this orchestra part.... dont get me started please....
Go listen to ACoS!
Oh, did I mention the horrible drum sound?
|
| |
The ambient-esque section leading into the orchestral part in Illumination Theory is great. Overall the song isn't amazing but it's more interesting than some of their other more recent epics.

Is the torrent that shitty? I have a Google Music pass and I thought the production was fantastic from what I'm hearing.
|
| |
nah its not that fantastic at all actually. The snare on some songs are like the worst ive heard in a good while. Especially in The Bigger Picture

ugh. labrie sounds weaker than ever, the songwriting is lazy and out-of-place, the riffs are forgettable and the production is pretty bad
