yea i mean if youve never heard rush before the trees will probably sound stupid kinda like how first time i heard queensryche i was probably 11 years old and all i could think was how much of a high pitched homo geoff tate looked and sounded like, but when i gave em a chance i was like hell yea
but dude first 6 sabbath (plus heaven and hell), first 7 maiden, rush from 76-81, classic periods for these bands

and mob ruels

Virtual XI is the only Maiden album I'd describe as terrible though. I actually enjoy a couple of songs from The X Factor, particularly Sign of the Cross (although even that one is ten times better when sung live by Bruce).
Agreed, though I think No Prayer for the Dying really isn't any good either. The X Factor has a list of shortcomings but at least it doesn't seem as lacklustre as that album.
the quality is pretty awful btw, but its fine until a legit 320kbps download would appear
Getting more and more curious about this but in that case I'll wait just a little while longer.

This is worlds better than FU, but that does not give the album a free pass to being lauded. Outside of being some weird marriage of the more strait-forward sections of the EP and the Warning with Alter Bridge, it just doesn't offer anything new for me. They lost the heady progressive and art-rock overtones that defined them up until Promised Land. Yes, it's better than they have been in the last 15 or so years. I think that is more a testament to how abysmally bad Queensryche have been, as opposed to the greatness of this album.
There is something about Le Torre's timbre that rubs me the wrong way... maybe it's the mix, it just sounds thin and not as full-bodied Geoff Tate's voice was up until the late 90s. He also seems to lack the conviction of Geoff's performances.
What I was most skeptical of before hearing this album, was weather or not Tod would be able to construct complex vocal harmonies and choir-esc melodies like the ones found on Rage and Mindcrime. While there are parts on the album that do show some vocal harmony interplay, the majority of the vocal harmonies are merely 7th and octave doubling. Standard metal stuff. Some of those chorus' are pretty darned catchy, though.
On a positive note, Scott Rockenfield is on point here. The best he has done in a long time. It's obvious he is having fun playing the more aggressive stuff. His inspired drumming isn't enough to save this album, IMO.

I finally got around to revisiting this band's discog, as they're easily among my tops. Might jam this soon along the way, if I find the tracks.

That's the one that seemed to almost have a Helloween influence in the chorus. It was surprising the first time I heard it.
