Boards of Canada have denied that Tomorrow's Harvest deals with post-apocalyptic themes, stating "it is about an inevitable stage that lies in front of us."[2]

sorry you needed to look that one up m8
quote is kind of taken out of the context of the conversation being had and I wouldn't say Michael denied that it deals with that theme
what he actually said in direct response to the question "is it fair to say that the tone of this album is post-apocalyptic?" is "It's not post-apocalyptic so much as it is about an inevitable stage that lies in front of us" which is not like you said
it sounds like for whatever reason, he just doesn't like looking at it in those terms

it's not post-apocalyptic, it's pre-apocalyptic, or even mid-apocalyptic !

they mention they don't view it as 'post-apocalyptic' but they don't specify much about what they mean by that. perhaps it could be inferred that it's not 'post-apocalyptic' because they don't believe in the 'apocalypse' as an atomized, future event, but rather explore a continuous, long decay in medias res, idk. they also say it's better if the listener decides what narrative they're going to see in the album so :v

^this is more or less how i see it in this context. slapping the term post apocalyptic on something like this, while not totally far off, just seems a bit cheap, shallow, etc.. i see the album exploring themes in past, present, and future, centered around what lies ahead, rather than focusing solely on a locus in the future eg 'after the apocalypse'

No matter what, this album is eerie and has a menacing vibe to it.

I always thought Reach for the Dead was kinda weak compared to most of the record, especially by BoC standards
Yeah album is eerie as fuck. The first half of Jacquard Causeway is so evil sounding

Whole record sounds so eerie and like wide open in a desolate way, definitely post-apocalyptic vibes. Reminds me of traveling a ruined wasteland of a futuristic city.

When they album came out I enjoyed it but it didn’t blow me away, the hype for new BoC was too high. Now that years have gone by I think this album had aged really well, the character of the album has solidified in my mind and I think there is a lot more going on with this album than one may initially believe. It’s definitely up there with classic BoC and I think it’s a great addition to their discography. When I’m feeling melancholic and dissociated this album is like medicine, it’s like, oh yeah, these humans brought my personal alienation and struggle to sound, and I love it.
