That's what I loved about it; I went into it hoping for a mostly ambient record and was happy to find out that that's what I got for the most part.

completely valid opinion, and i didn't mean it to sound like i was speaking directly at you gyro, i just feel like the majority of criticism aimed at this album hasnt really had any weight to it

what gyro said. I like geogaddi's dark atmosphere but mostly what I liked was how that combined with these interesting idm bits and motifs which would truly make the music come alive

ill still never understand why people call geogaddi a dark album, sure its not as upbeat as MHARTC but it most certainly isnt "dark", maybe somber
this, however, is pretty dark

geogaddi is more creepy and unnerving than dark

yeah creepy. it's definitely pretty subtle and I can see why people wouldn't feel like that way, but the images it gives me are pretty unsettling.

The creepiest thing I have heard from BoC is The Color of the Fire, nothing else by them really sounds that creepy to me.

geogaddi makes me feel like I'm walking on a lonely earth, millions of years after the end of civilisation with only scraps left over. it's boiling hot and extremely sunny, with weird plants and colourful trees everywhere. not dark in a moody haunted house way, but there's definitely something creepy about that.

The Color of the Fire sounds like something I'd hear in a nightmare lol

no worries hyperion, i get that
regarding geogaddi's creepiness: i find it incredibly unnerving and generally dark. the backmasking on tracks like a is to b as b is to c and chopped and screwed vocals/weird insect noises on the devil is in the details are just legitimately frightening. even the prettier, happier moments sound like they came from some kind of hellish landscape (dawn chorus)

you can just feel the sweat oozing out of songs like 1969 and The Beach At Redpoint, chemicals
dripping from fragmented bits of technology as they just crackle and pop

lol i always argue with my friend about the colour of the fire. he says it's 'extremely endearing,' i think he's confusing the words (i love you) for being cute and not paying attention to the music and the way the vocals get warped -- especially around the middle when it sounds like she's saying 'naaaaaaaaaaaaaap' followed by that lethargic laughter

I imagine some delirious child with a giant knife in their hand all smiling and saying that to their parents before they start slashing away, idk if there's something wrong with me but that's what I imagine lmao

that's not why there's something wrong with you lol

"especially around the middle when it sounds like she's saying 'naaaaaaaaaaaaaap' followed by that lethargic laughter "
I always thought the song ended with the child saying
"I love you......not!" and then the laughing. Which fuckin werids me out hahaha

"i actually dislike this because it's too atmospheric. this album is floating in space; so much of it sounds the same; and there's rarely any kind of intriguing development/resolution to these songs. some of them are
sublime, but as an album i find it very inconsistent - especially when you throw a song like palace posy in the mix "
I tend to agree. I still haven't gotten through the whole album. It's not bad, and I love floating music, but I have a lot better albums in my collection for when I want a more floating-ambient listen. It'll probably end up
being around a 3 for me. We'll see.

I think Cold Earth might be my favorite track here, hard to choose between that, Sick Times, Nothing is Real, and Come to Dust.
