I never liked In Flames, they depress me for some reason.
Man Made God is pretty good, though.

My favorite melodeath bad will be always at the gates. In flames is badass until Clayman, then they went downhill, still I enjoy a bunch of their newes albums like come clarity.

For those familiar with Devin Townsend’s Ocean Machine release, ‘The Windswept Mercy’ is definitely in the same style but with the Soilwork treatment.
I think Devin worked with them on a few albums and really developed the clean vocals (which I personally enjoy). It's no coincidence that Devin's sound would run into Soilwork's.
This shit is so much better than most of their other stuff that I don't think if I'll ever listen to anything except this album from Soilwork. Well, maybe the first 3 albums will be an exception, but not anytime soon.
Dude, there first 6 albums crush this.
but yea soilwork overall are pretty average
Hell no.

Dark Tranquillity is one of the few bands in the genre that is has been consistent in recent years. Other bands of the genre, and similar genres, have been getting worse. Soilwork had a period of decline and this might be the start of them going back up a bit, if the last album wasn't already a step in the right direction.
If DT has a release like Fiction or Character, then they will be the best in the genre. In Flames has been very poor, and though their early career was stellar, that does not save their future. Scar Symmetry got rid of Christian, which sucks for the original fans... so DT and Soilwork are going strong. Who else?
What about Kalmah?? When are they coming out with something sweet? Everything they have so far has been great

I'm one of the few who loves this bands alternative side. And yes, I like it as much as this. At least when Soilwork went "more melodic", they didn't forget to write memorable songs.

Hell yes! I didn't like The Panic Broadcast but this seems much better. Favorite track so far would be Tongue for me. It's a lot of tracks to let sink in though. I don't get the hate for Björn either, I've always liked his vocals and think his performance is really solid here.

As for Scar Symmetry, their riffing patterns owe nothing to In Flames. If you listened to Pitch Black Progress, most of their riffs are what you'd call proto-djent with the melody coming from glam and arena rock rather than Iron Maiden.
