Meshuggah's structuring is definitely to be desired, although you are definitely missing the point of their sound. Where it really starts to suck for me is on their 2016 album.

I think this is a weak album by their standards, but you’ve picked the absolute worst track on here to celebrate, especially if your main complain is how generic the album sounds. The solo sounds like a piss take.

I agree with the monotony argument, but for me it's not about the instrument, it is about the godawful, monotonous voice. Ulcerate is almost on the same level, where the voice or the lack of dynamics in the vocal delivery kind of makes the whole band boring.
