Song is decent, just not that memorable. Still have high hopes for Dark Bird

Damn this guy makes some beautiful music. His live performance on KEXP is somehow better than his recordings.

that version of "wind and walls" is definitely better. there's also this pitchfork live version of "revelation blues" that beats the album version. can't wait to see this dude on tour soon.

New album is better than this one imo
|

yeah this one wears off eventually; it's a little too safe of a record. new one could potentially be better but needs more time.

Really? I thought this was excellent ad the only song I've heard from Dark Bird suggested it was going to be less acoustic-based, which raised some worries.
|
| |
It's absolutely less acoustic. But then again, this was much less acoustic than his previous ones. I believe there's many more instruments on the new one, but I also believe he plays all of them.
He appears to be tinkering with the same formula he used in There's No Leaving Now, and taking it a step further. Almost the constructive equivalent of Godspeed's stylistic progression.
His latest hit me as a little cheesy and too full-bodied-yet-empty on the first two listens, but even then it was impossible not to listen to. I've been enjoying its quality much more lately, though. I feel like it's a more successful version of this record, basically (disclaimer: I wasn't huge on this record, at least in terms of his discography).
There's one or two rough patches of 2 shitty tracks in a row, but other than that his newest is really enjoyable. I'm not sure if anything on it beats "1904," but it has like 4 or 5 tracks that are just about equal in my eyes.
And don't base your opinion of his newest on the single, Sagres, I think it's my least favorite on the entire thing.

"don't base your opinion of his newest on the single, Sagres, I think it's my least favorite on the entire thing"
I'm glad to hear that because I wasn't huge on that track either.

| |
I had not heard the single when going into it, I have a policy against listening to singles from albums I'm already anticipating. And I was confused when I first hear Sagres, because coincidentally the two tracks surrounding it are my favorites, "Little Nothing Towns" and "Timothy," and it was like Wait which one was I supposed to like again?

just the name of Little Nothing Towns makes me expectant of something great
