who the hell knows. something about tech death with slow parts and big buildups.

can you give some examples of bands you would consider "post-death"? not trying to be snarky, just legit curious about what bands would be in that ummm catagory of death metal

yeah I guess I would say if there's a style I love the most it's prob OSDM, but I love death doom, prog death, blackened death etc

sludge metal isn't usually excessively technical though

i can only assume he's talking about bands like ulcerate

but i would say they something like atmospheric death metal or something

idk

i feel dumb now for being one of those people who are like "NO ITS TECHNICAL AMBIENT METAL WITH A HINT OF BLACKENED SLUDGE"

There's so much crossover stuff now that you can label it any number of ways, really. Like, what the dickens is Ne Obliviscaris? Death metal with black metal drumming, progressive metal song structures, and symphonic metal instrumentation? Blackened symphonic prog death? Rorcal has played everything from uber-doom to raging death metal to Fall of Efrafa-style blackened crust punk, but you have to call them something when making a recommendation.

Yeah genre labeling can become very convoluted at times
