Maybe ill pick it up when i get some free time or something. Im kinda burned out on terribad albums though. That last Taking Back Sunday CD really took it out of me and Say Anything's first 3 albums are like all classic for me so I dont know if I can take hearing this.

Sexual, check out the first few songs to get an idea if you'll like this. The other ones aren't as interesting, but I love Night Song and Say Anything in particular.

Frankly, I quite like it.

Didn't at first, but after repeat listens it's grown on me. I'm not going to start slating the album simply because it doesn't sound like Is A Real Boy...sure, Bemis said it was going to, but why should him touting the album to be something it's not, stop me enjoying it?

I'm quite enjoying "Burn A Miracle", "Say Anything", "Night's Song", "Overbiter" and "Anarchy, My Dear". In fact, I fucking love "Overbiter".

Yeah, I feel like I'm supposed to feel like Overbiter is too cheesy. And I do. But I still quite like it.

Overbiter and Nights Song are absolutely atrocious. Say Anything is also really bad. Anarchy My Dear is insanely annoying. Burn a Miracle is pretty great.

I guess you could say they struck out with this release...

I don't see how one could dislike Night's Song - it resembles much of the songs from their other albums, especially the best moments of the self-titled.

T

Frankly, nostalgia does not have a place in music. If I'm in need of a good album, why the hell do I care who

made it? Sure, it'd have been nice to see Say Anything really return to their roots and the heady heights of

...Is A Real Boy. But that is not going to stop me enjoying this album.

If it's going to stop you enjoying it then so be it, but there's several quality songs on this album, and if it

was released by any other band it'd be getting a lot more love.

Chan wrote a well written review that complained about what the album wasn't rather than what the album was

What the album is, however, is horrendous

I am a huge fan of ...Is A Real Boy, but I don't need to listen to that to know that this is garbage. Comparing it to that album it gets a solid 2, and it gets a solid 2 on its own. Listening to ...Is A Real Boy and then comparing it with this will only show you what he tried to accomplish on here, you don't need to hear any other Say Anything album to know that this is fucking trash.

Well, that's the good thing about music eh? It always splits the community. While I'm not about to put this up as one of my favourite albums, from my end, I enjoy it, and will continue to listen to it as well as their older material.

The start of "Peace Out" makes me feel Irish.

For someone who's already Irish, I'm not sure that's much of an achievement.

If you manage to avoid forming any relationship with the songwriters you love most then a) I feel sorry for you and b) I think you're in the minority.

Wasn't really what I was getting at.

Of course I come to expect certain things from certain bands, and I grow attached to particular bands and their members. If Trophy Scars for example released a terrible album, I'd take it as a personal insult and likely cry myself to sleep that night.

My point is edging more towards not being disappointed simply because a band changes its sound. If you genuinely don't like the music then obviously that's fine, but I don't think you should dismiss an album simply because it sounds differently to what you were expecting of the band.

Chan, aye I get that. If you don't like the album you don't like the album, obviously there's not an issue there. I'm directing myself to the handful of people who are seemingly hating on it simply because it doesn't sound like Say Anything used to.

Anyway, as andcas said, they'll get another chance to turn it around in the future. Just depends if they progress further down this route or back the other way.

For what it's worth, I do prefer their older sound, style and songs, I just happen to enjoy this too.

Yeah it's got nothing to do with a change in sound at all. It's a change in lyrical tone and quality that stabs it in the heart for me. And what I'm saying is that when a songwriter like Max Bemis loses the touch he used to have possess, the result is inevitably worse in your head than if somebody came onto the scene fresh and wrote these songs.
