Either way, this album blew me away in terms of what I expected versus what I actually heard.

"Eh I kinda like highish vocals. Unless it's a guy singing, and it sounds like a girl's. "
It is a guy.

Doesn't take much, huh?

Ok would it be fair to say that this album would be the best of the worst?

No, because the best of the worst came out 7-8 years ago.

@Meta: Really? Render the Void is one of my favorites.

To me, this album falls off a bit around song 7-9. Render The Void definitely picks it up again. I'm just not the biggest fan of "Heart," "Obscure Words," and "Invent". They just sound like filler to me. Album is still great though....no matter how much FrankRedHot whines about how it is not.

Obscure Words and Heart are quite good imo, but I have noticed that they're slightly less memorable than others. Render the Void ends off on such a great note though.

I mean, they aren't bad songs by any means, just rather unforgettable compared to the rest of the album. If I had to rate the album by each song, it would be a little something like dis': White Noise: 4.5, Pattern Interrupt: 4.0, Seven: 4.0, Architect: 4.5, Efflorescent: 3.5, Vaalbara: 4.5 (song is heavy as FUCK), Heart: 3.0, Obscure Words: 2.5, Invent: 3.0, Render The Void: 4.5
Definitely a badass album.

this album isnt really bad its just a couple of great ideas, a bunch of mediocre ones, and sceney gay cleans that ruin it

To be fair, I don't really think the cleans don't fit in, but the way it's produced is a bit off.

i second that motion. the filter and delay on his voice makeshis freuquent vocal jumps quite abrasive

I personally think the vocals fit this perfectly. With this type of music, there aren't many singers out their trying to add in wide vibrato and really experimental singing lines. I think Jesse's singing fits this quite well. As well, for what they are playing, it is quite different. Yes, it is overproduced and I definitely don't see him hitting a lot of those crazy high notes live, but it still sounds great, in my opinion. Personally, I think this album is mixed quite well, to be honest. Usually, this producer is really hit and miss for me, but he definitely hit the nail on the head with this one.
