Maybe on the next record Lars will improve more and learn to control the tone a bit better. As for Roberth, I'm pleased with his performance as harsh vocalist on this record.

I judge Scar Symmetry's albums as wholes, that's why I gave Holographic Universe a lower grade than SID and PBP. This album is short and sweet, no song is worse than the rest of the songs (much like on the first two) and there is still promise for a good future. HU was stunning at times, but some of the tracks were subpar or filler, which I couldn't experience on the first two albums. The standout tracks on HU were some of the best, but IMO The Kaleidoscopic God is still their best song.

And yeah, Roberth really hit me as Christian's equal on this album. On DMD the echos and reverbs ruined the ferocity of his grunts.

If I had to pick a couple favorites from the band, I'd go with Ghost Prototype II: Deus Ex Machina or Deviate From the Form.

Songs on SID have the best leads from Per.

It's very easy for a band to become mixed up a bit when transitioning between vocalists. They are so used to a previous sound that bringing in a new vocalist or two in this case that changing their sound a bit to suit the new vocals will always yield mixed results from the consumers.
Look at Nightwish's album Dark Passion Play for a perfect example of this.

Well, that album was musically decent, perhaps better than Once. But that's beside the point - Nightwish is in general a band for girls and pussies.

I enjoy Nightwish. They create some nice landscapes to think about when you need an escape.

Swallow the Sun does that better.

Swallow the Sun and Nightwish are two completely different genres. You can't even say they do it better when you can't compare them.

The genres may be different, but the emotions are always the same. That's what separates good music from average music.

I've gotta say, there's no reason for anyone to rate this less than they rated DMD. It's a real step up from their last album - which to be fair, isn't saying a whole lot - but really, it's a big improvement. Yea they'll never be as good without Christian, but that doesn't make them insta-suck.

Don't even know if I'm going to bother with this.
