And Empty Glass is brilliant. Empty or half full, it all goes down the same.

I count this among those. They're certainly not the best lyrics I've ever read, but when you ignore the hyperbole that's often associated with them and take them for what they're worth, they're pretty good and I found things to take out of them.
Fair enough. I'm not suggesting they're worthless, just that they're not the 'literate' work which some of the slathering fanboys profess them to be. They badly need new ideas, though, because they're just retreading old ground now.

I guess I am just not seeing what everyone else sees with this.

Even with a different opinion on this album I agree with that. As much as I enjoyed the concept on the whole, it has undoubtedly run its course. I will have to check out the bands you mentioned above especially because I have a few friends that sweat the Weakerthans are special.

All 3 bands Phlebas suggested are awesome lyrically. Might as well check out Jawbreaker if you are going to listen to Jets to Brazil. I do think the lyrics on this are really good, but they need diversity.

I can't think other people's thoughts, I can only think my own.
I disagree, but in terms of the review this isn't an issue.

To everyone, 3.5 or 3 this or whatever makes you happy, but let's cut this annoying shit out wherein we assume that anyone who 5's this has a dick in their mouth and/or believes the lyrics are the greatest thing ever. It could just be that we like it a lot and you're reading too far into things.
this this this. this album is a 5 for me, hype or no hype. I didn't even know that sputnik liked to ride this band's dick until a couple of weeks ago. I hate feeling like I won't be taken seriously if I 5 this.

I'd cut him some slack. Hell, it might be the first time he's ever tried expressing his opinion on a forum. It damn well better be.

English might be his second or third language. Hopefully it's his last.

this guy is going to start fresh with a new account and then in a year, some user we've all come to love will admit that he was mfp and we will all hang our heads in shame

My favorite of the Empty Days section is hard to pick.... probably Empty Glass or White Oak Doors. My favorite of the Sleepless Nights is easy, though. Headstone.

that followed in the footsteps of turn of the millennium groups like Eighteen Visions
Eighteen Visions first two albums are essential, I agree with the rest of their discography. This sounds worth my time.

It's a hit and miss genre with me but I will give it a go. After Daughters released their s/t last year, hardcore was never the same for me tbqh.
