@Hawks: this album hit me hard right off the bat, but your reaction sounds exactly like my first impression of Neon Bible, and I currently have that album at a strong 4.5, so maybe this will grow on you like Bible did with me?

Nah dude I'm actually a really big indie rock fan believe it or not. I usually know right off the bat if I'm gonna dig an album or not though. Very few albums have really grown on me to the point where I began to love them when I previously thought they were meh.
You never know though.
