I can't hear anything terribly wrong with it. This sounds like Persefone making another stylistic shift, as they do with every album. Feels like a logical progression from Spiritual Migration.

The keyboards are much more present and sound pretty amazing. Vocals on point, guitars still on point, drums on point.

The boys are bout to drop 2017's best y'all just in denial

I didn't like Spiritual Migration either, so it makes sense the new doesn't do anything for me. even if I could enjoy the more modern approach, there's still too much wanking sections and disjointed compositions.

And yeah, I suspected you didn't like Spiritual. To each their own my man, I think Aathma will be killer

I don't mean just fast guitarwork when I say "wank", I mean too much of fast guitarwork without any purpose in the song. at least I can't see one. it's like it's used just to fill up space. and maybe it wouldn't bother me that much if some tasty riff comes after it, but instead they rely too much on just chugging these days and I just can't get into it. it bugs me because the songwriting on this thing was amazing, not sure what happened there.

I will say that the review on the previous page didn't really seem to judge the album fairly. A lot of their reasons for liking Spiritual Migration sounded like "it was random and this isn't," which imo does a disservice to the album and puts a weird standard on Aathma. Just because it's not spastic and all over the place doesn't make it bad, especially if you consider its place in the entire Persefone discog--something the review didn't take into account. Like, I get you're supposed to look at the previous album, but with a band like Persefone you need to view their progression as a whole imo
