by Admiral Fell Promises Mark had almost totally removed his personality from the lyrics I dunno, didn't feel like too much was at stake
'You Missed My Heart' live at Phoenix Public House is early RHP quality, much prefer him writing stuff like that

'The lyrics to that song though lol'
Gustavo? Some of my favourite lyrics of the decade
no one else could make the lyrics 'It gets boring out in the mountains, you know, chopping wood, falling asleep to the TV snow, making ground beef tacos' into the most universally resonant sad thing I've ever heard
EDIT: ah yeah, the lyrics in 'Moderately Talented' are a bit worrisome
still 'one day you'll be forty and trust me it's not sporty' resonates

"by Admiral Fell Promises Mark had almost totally removed his personality from the lyrics I dunno, didn't feel like too much was at stake"
I can see that, but I heard more about his travels, nostalgia, and loneliness more in those lyrics than whatever old man personality bullshit he drove towards after
from "yea I'm an airport in Norway and I wrote a song about how lonely I am there"
to "I met a woman at a bar and I thought we were hitting it off but it fizzled so fuck her"

i find the general sentiment in moderately talented lalalalalala etc etc to be very devastating and poignant even if there are some yikes lines

that track sounds too campy for my taste

You see I think in the past he would have written a song inspired by both events - now he can tell you about both and also find time to tell you what he had for breakfast and which episode of True Detectives he’s currently got to

I mean I'm living the dad life and I'm getting older
but I can't relate to or have patience for ramblings like old men do, and that's why he lost me at Among the Leaves

I for one love lyrics that deal with the (seemingly) mundane so I must admit some excitement to hear the dad ramblings. I've heard a handful of Mark's stuff from this current era and I generally enjoy them.

I'd enjoy it more of the music was interesting instead of it following the lyrics

I feel like this is basically a 5 and I'm just waiting for everything to fall properly into place for me before I can bestow it that title. It pretty much checks all my boxes.

Nice!
I only 5’d this about 12 months ago because I thought Benji was a tiny bit stronger...but then I just thought I might as well 5 both, both deserve full marks
