I dunno, don't those private torrent sites force you to have a UL/DL ratio over 1.00? Otherwise they kick you out. Happened to me on some private torrent site years ago lol

when I first got on soulseek some years ago, some user was messaging me saying I have to give something before I d/l anything. so I've only uploaded 1 album (mista thug isolation) to database and ive d/l over 500 albums easily so there def isn't a ratio you have to keep up, im pretty sure it's user moderated because the user that messaged me was the person that uploaded the first album I was trying to d/l so perhaps he was notified?

soulseek is a direct p2p service (unlike torrents which are distributed), meaning that when u dl an album u dl it directly from a single person's machine.
it does have mechanisms for people to condition your download of their uploads by you having uploads of your own which is kinda like a ul/dl ratio but not really and again its on a per case basis at the uploader's discretion
