word man, I love it when Chino goes ape-shit. he still has one of the best screams in the game (minus his performance on SNW).

When I get around to listening to this hopefully it's more like Saturday Night Wrist and less like White Pony. The credit given to White Pony must be purely nostalgic because I can not get into it at this current state of my musical journey.

Yeah, I mean I always thought Bloody Cape was one of the best examples of how awesome he is when he goes insane with his screaming, and Rats! Rats! Rats! was awesome too, but Royal might beat them both.

Yeah I think I agree, end of Royal > end of Bloody Cape

ooh, that's a tough one for me, I LOVE the end of Bloody Cape. I'll have to listen to them back to back before I can say for sure.

@Inveigh: Haha I know, the end of Bloody Cape is the only song I've ever had the pleasure of moshing outside of a concert to (my friend's basement lol), and that's a testament to it's sheer brutality and brilliance. I'll take my Royal vs. Bloody Cape comment back for now and let the album sink into my skull a bit more. I'm just so excited to have new Deftones

And speaking of brutally awesome ending breakdowns, I just listened to Beware for the first time in at least a couple months. The end of that song gives me a stiffy every time, god bless Steph Carpenter

I absolutely love the end of Beware. and yes, there is nothing greater than that feeling we get every 3 years or so when Deftones release something new. I definitely get more amped about their new albums than pretty much any other band (Poison the Well and P.O.S. are close behind them, but nothing touches the feel of a new 'tones record, especially because it takes soooooo long to release them).

Carpenter's riffing got so much heavier than Saturday Night Wrist on this record too, I love that. It makes some of the songs even more intense.

At first I wasn't impressed, but this album has really grown on me. Still, I think it doesn't touch White Pony which is their masterpiece.

I feel that this or SNW is their masterpiece but I can't decide which one yet. The album is cohesive but Im especially in love with Risk, Beauty School, You've Seen the Buther, and Sextape at the moment.

White Pony will always be their masterpiece, as well as one of the greatest albums of this generation. IMHO of course.
